Portrait of Maren Osk

Jax

The scholar
A flooded bell tower rising out of grey water at dawn

Early Childhood

Raised in the flooded bell-towers of Old Corth, Maren learned to read tide patterns before she learned to read words. Her mother kept a lighthouse on a tower that no longer breaks the surface.

Hand-drawn charts and a barometer laid across a wooden desk by candlelight

About Jax

She charts the drowned city grid by candlelight and barometric pressure, selling her routes to salvagers who'd otherwise drown chasing rumor instead of measurement.

A collapsed underwater stairwell seen from above the waterline

Activities

She never goes below deck. Ten years ago, a chart she drew sent a diving crew into a collapsing vault. Only two of them came back up.

Two figures on a small boat in open water at dusk

Scholastics

Kestrel is the only diver left who still trusts her lines. Everyone else in the barges thinks she draws maps to graves.

A dark, roiling sky over open water, a storm gathering on the horizon

Looking Forward

Her tide charts have started disagreeing with the sky. Something under Ferrowake is shifting, and her maps are running out of certainty.

Remington

The wild one
Salvage barges lashed together beneath old shipping cranes

Early Childhood

Grew up on the salvage barges beneath the old shipping lanes — first dive at seven, first solo salvage at twelve. Never learned to read a chart. Learned to read the water instead.

A diver's gear laid out on a dock, ropes coiled beside a lantern

About Remi

Moves cargo, secrets, and the occasional fugitive through the flooded undercity — working the routes no chart admits exist.

A narrow flooded stairwell descending into darkness

Activities

Lost a partner to a chart that promised open water and delivered a collapsed stairwell. Doesn't trust maps. Trusts Maren, which annoys them both.

Scholastics

The two argue constantly and dive together anyway. Kestrel is the only one who follows Maren's routes without asking why.

Dark water swirling around a sinking cargo crate

Looking Forward

The deep currents are pulling wrong, and cargo that should float is starting to sink. Kestrel is running out of routes that still make sense.

A wide, still horizon where dark water meets a pale, uncertain sky

Two children, alike in blood diverse by nature Thanks for taking this opertunty to learn about Jax and Remington. If your have any questions or comments. Please consult Kyle.
